More than 20% of the wealthy pay extra to get direct access to their doctor according to a new poll done by National Public Radio, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.1
You may be surprised how the price tag for that service has decreased. In the 1990’s, in-person/phone concierge service would cost at the high end as much as $30,000 a month.1 Today you can join a telehealth concierge service for @$175/month.2
Or maybe you prefer direct primary care? The contract is “directly” between the doctor and patient so no insurance companies are involved. You can expect a 30–60 minute appointment the same day — by phone, telehealth or in person! And the average 2022 rate is $93.26/month.3 What a deal! Accessible at any time, more time with the clinician and lower costs than my current prescription!
Both of these practice types contract with patients so the doctor gets to see less patients thus providing better care.
Wait a minute! Let’s do the math! We already have a shortage of primary care physicians. If more and more physicians are turning to concierge services or Direct Patient practices, that takes more doctors away from regular practices and probably decreases access for patients to primary care.
I don’t want to have an even harder time seeing my doctor. Maybe I will join one of these groups after all, but how will I get my labs done if I am not using insurance?
Meenta wants to help you with that. We launched a Marketplace where you can order any test, at any time and get results faster. We have contracted with top national laboratories to process the tests you need, when you need them right from your own home. You are now free to take charge of your own healthcare plan.
