SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Neutralizing Antibody Testing (Discounted)

Innovative Health Diagnostics
SKU: IHDCVAB-1

$96.87 per test

Helps individuals who want to assess their current immunity to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, with ease of at-home collection. The test determines evidence of prior COVID-19 infection and does not indicate the presence of current infection.

The Fine Print

Purpose:  This COVID-19 qualitative antibody test can determine if a given antibody response can target the SARS-CoV-2 virus and neutralize it.

Benefits:

The Covam microarray utilizes lab-on-a-chip technology available for rapid coronavirus diagnostic and antibody testing of over 20 different antibody responses to 5 respiratory viruses, including 4 variants of SARS-CoV-2. Covam is a breakthrough immunology profiling platform developed by an mRNA vaccine innovator, Philip Felgner, PhD.

Sample type: Small blood sample

Turnaround time: 5-7 days from receipt in lab

Technology: Covam microarray

What are COVID-19 Neutralizing Antibodies?

Antibodies are produced by your immune system after vaccination or infection in response to a given infectious pathogen. Antibodies are able to become different shapes and go after lots of different pathogens.  When an antibody’s shape and electrochemistry fit a pathogen, it binds to the pathogen. Sometimes an antibody’s shape is not the right fit for a pathogen.  When the antibody does fit the pathogen, the antibody can stop the pathogen so is considered a neutralizing antibody.  COVID-19 Neutralizing Antibodies are specific antibodies that are able to bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Once the virus is neutralized by antibody, SARS-Co-V-2 can no longer enter human cells and cause infection.

Why take this test?

Antibody tests are not the same thing as a COVID-19 PCR test or a COVID-19 antigen test. Antibody tests do not determine if you have current COVID-19 infection or not.  The COVID-19 Neutralizing Antibody test helps you understand if your body is producing neutralizing antibodies in response to the vaccine or infection. Further, Neutralizing antibody levels can help predict your immune protection from COVID-19 virus. See: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01377-8

Specifically, researchers found that participants with healthy levels of neutralizing antibodies to the COVID-19 virus, had only mild symptoms when infected.   Participants who wound up hospitalized had initially minimal or undetectable levels of neutralizing antibodies. When to test?

  • After your second or third COVID-19 vaccine dose to see whether your body produced neutralizing antibodies in response to the vaccine
  • After a COVID-19 infection to check your immune system’s reaction to the infection
  • To have a general baseline to help you decide on additional boosters

What will my results look like?

The test result will indicate if neutralizing antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus are present or not. If they are present or positive, you have mounted an immune response to the virus; however, a positive result should not be interpreted as meaning you won’t get infected again or that the severity or duration of infection will be reduced. It’s still not known how long antibodies remain after infection and even if the amount of antibodies confer protection from future infection.

How is the specimen collected?

Your kit will include an activation code that will provide digital instructions to guide through specimen collection.   A finger stick will allow for a small amount of blood to be collected into the Microtainer tube.

What is included in my sample collection kit?

Included in your kit is:

  • BD Microtainer collection tube
  • Lancets (x2)
  • Gauze pad
  • Alcohol prep pads (x2)
  • Round bandages (x2)
  • Registration/Instruction card
  • Blood sample return bag
  • Specimen bag
  • Return envelope

How do I interpret my results?

Each results report comes with an explanation of your results. It is recommended that if there are any abnormal findings that you discuss them with a healthcare provider.
